Terms of service
Last updated 9 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and [business name] ([business address]), which runs the Candlelit Parlor at candlelitparlor.com. By using the parlor you agree to them.
1. Who can use the parlor
You must be 18 or older. We ask you to confirm this before your first reading and when you create an account.
2. What readings are
Readings are for entertainment and reflection only. Cards are drawn at random. Readings do not predict the future and are not medical, legal, financial or psychological advice. Please don’t make important decisions based on them. See our disclaimer.
Esmé and the other readers are virtual characters. Their voices are generated with AI.
3. Free readings and the Parlor Pass
- Free readings: two three-card readings per week. They reset every Monday at 00:00 UTC.
- Parlor Pass: up to three readings per day (UTC), billed monthly or yearly. It renews automatically until you cancel.
- You can cancel anytime from your account in one click. Your Pass continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Founding Patron: a single payment for the Parlor Pass for as long as the Candlelit Parlor operates, with the same daily limits. Limited to 500 places.
4. Purchases and credits
- Prices are shown in US dollars and include any VAT or sales tax.
- Reading credits never expire. They are used after any free or Parlor Pass readings available to you.
- Decks, rooms and readers you buy are yours to keep, even if you cancel the Parlor Pass.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- When you buy something that starts immediately, you agree that you lose the right to cancel within 14 days once you use it. Our refund policy explains when refunds are available.
5. Your account
Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You can delete your journal or your whole account at any time; deleting your account also cancels any subscription.
6. Fair use
Please don’t misuse the parlor: no attempts to get around reading limits, scrape content, disrupt the service or use it to harm others.
7. Our content
The parlor, its readers, voices, art and text belong to us or our licensors. The classic deck uses public-domain artwork by Pamela Colman Smith (1909).
8. Changes and availability
We may change features or these terms. If a change affects a paid plan, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel. We try to keep the parlor open, but can’t promise it will always be available.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make based on readings, or for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law.
10. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction]. Questions? Write to [contact email].
